Pre-production is the initial planning phase that takes place before any filming is carried out.

Careful planning and preparation takes place to ensure that the production phase goes as smoothly as possible. All individuals taking part are briefed and understand what the final film is to consist of and what is expected of them.

The best equipment required for the filming is determined.
The decision is based on the type of shoot, specific requirements, final medium, and budget.
